NEW TAX RATES FOR REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS
If you are considering selling your real estate in 2009 it is
important to know that the Government of Jamaica has again
reduced the rate for Transfer Tax . The new rate is 5% of the
sale price, down from 6.5% in April 2008 and 7.5% prior to
that.
This means that if you decided to sell your property for
J$5,000,000 this year, you would receive an additional
$75,000 in hand as opposed to selling last year.
In addition, with the decrease in Stamp Duty last year from
5.5% to the new rate of 4.5% the vendor sees an even
greater income from the sale of real property.
